SKETCHES
EACH WEEK YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE TWO SKETCHES LISTED BELOW. YOU NEED TO REMEMBER GOOD COMPOSITION RULES SUCH AS FILLING THE PAGE, USING RESOURCES, OVERLAPPING AND RUNNING OFF THE PAGE.

Week 1: Set up a still life using three objects.
Find an article of clothing or cloth, and lay it so it is overlapping itself creating wrinkles. Shade the clothing or cloth to create a three dimensional appearance.
Week 2: Draw a piece of fruit using three different perspectives and shade it: eye level, above eye level, below eye level.
Find a person and sketch their face with a facial expression.
Week 3: Draw a shoe (sneaker, running shoe, gym shoe, tennis shoe, etc.). Shade in the shoe where color and shadows appear.
Draw your favorite food and shade it correctly. Also, draw the plate and remember to shade.
Week 4: Line drawing a figure in two different poses.
Create your own logo. Make sure the lines are clean and coloring is clean.
Week 5: Draw your own super hero, and make sure you give him/her a name and powers.
Draw your favorite toy or doll and add one of the shading techniques you learned in class: hatching, cross hatching, scumbling or shading.
Week 6: Draw your ideal paradise (landscape).
Week 7: Draw 3 pairs of expressive eyes. Include shading.
One-point perspective: draw your first name in block letters and have lines going into the distance to one single point. Do the same with your last name but going into the distance from a different angle.
Week 8:Draw your dream house. Make sure you use the correct perspective and use resources to help guide you.
Must be in detail from the house to the landscaping.
Week 9: Visit some online galleries and update your digital portfolio.
CHECK THE ASSESSMENT SECTION!
Week 10: Draw anything, but it must show 4 different aspects/views of the item. Use a variety of values from your whitest whites to your blackest blacks.
Create a human with very exaggerated facial features. (Ex: Large nose, cat like eyes, big ear, etc.)
Week 11:
Using a wet tea bag let it stain one of your pages. Once dry use the stain left to create something.
Design the coolest/creepiest Halloween outfit imaginable.
Week 12: Draw your favorite dessert and use shading.
Create a new species of tree. Describe all the cool things about it.
Week 13:
Draw what Thanksgiving means to you.
Take a mundane object and give it new life by using an interesting view point and shading/lighting
Week 14:
Create a key that visually represents what it belongs to.
Draw anything, but it must show 4 different views of the item. Use a variety of values from your whitest whites to your blackest blacks.
Week 15:
Create a new traffic sign for the roads that you feel is needed.
Draw an above the eye view of a fruit and a below eye level view.
11/21: ALL SKETCHES AND LOGS NEED TO BE TURNED IN!!! Keep logs on as few pages as possible use both sides. Once I have signed them upload them to your log page.
Week 16:
Create a new animal. Describe all the things it can do to the side.
Draw what the "Holidays" will look like at your house.
Week 17:
Draw an image you visualize when you think of your favorite movie.
Create a decoration.
Common Assessment #2 is due on December 12th to your portfolio!!!
Week 18:
Create a drawing using an everyday object. Your everyday object should be glued into your sketchbook. For example using screws as the pins on a porcupine.
Draw a mash-up of similar shaped things.
Sketchbook due December 19th!!!
January 6-30
Week 19: 1/5
Create a drawing in your sketchbook that:
1. Uses a word or quote that is important to you
2. Uses strong composition
3. Uses color to express your ideas
4. Could stand alone as a strong piece of art
Week 20: 1/12
Create a drawing utilizing only your primary colors.
Draw a town using one point perspective.
Week 21: 1/19
Draw a drawing which shows how a color scheme can impact it. (Analogous, monochromatic, secondary, etc.)
Create a new world.
Week 22: 1/26
Create a drawing in which you are focusing on shape and using a simple color palette. (Think Mondrian)
Draw a person's face using gesture drawing.
Sketchbooks, logs and Common Assessment #3 should be turned in on Friday 1/30!!!
Week 23: 2/2
Draw a vase and make it look three-dimensional using values.
Draw an image that is focused on variety and repetition.
Week 24:
Create an the most aesthetically pleasing composition. (Think asymmetrical :))
Week 25:
Draw an sketch that shows contrast.
Look up art that shows a story. Print the image and glue it into your sketchbook. Create a modern version.
Week 26:
Create a drawing that is showing various shades and tints of a hue. These should look three-dimensional since you are giving them shadows (shades) and highlights (Tints).
Sketches are due no later than this Friday for the month of February!!!
Week 27: 3/2/2015
Enjoy a week off!!! ALL SKETCHES SHOULD BE TURNED IN FOR FEBRUARY!!!

We will return to sketches next week, but I want you to gather all your log sheets and start totaling your minutes/hours. Keep in mind this helps figure out your grade.

Create two different drawings that utilize two different color schemes to evoke emotion.
Week 30: 3/23/2015
This week we will redo week 26. This time do the following within a drawing that is NOT of cones, boxes or spheres. Create a drawing that is showing various shades and tints of a hue. These should look three-dimensional since you are giving them shadows (shades) and highlights (Tints).
TURN IN SKETCHES FOR MARCH BEFORE SPRING BREAK! THIS SHOULD INCLUDE WEEKS 29 and 30!!!

Create a series of gestuaral drawings. These should capture the action of the pose a person is in, remember it is all about motion.
This video may help you understand how quickly these should be done. Remember they should not be perfect.

Last week was your last week for sketches!
Calculate all your hours this week and turn them in at the end of the week with your April sketches.
